Joseph Smith was a treasure digger that used a rock in a hat to fraudulently scam people into believing he could help them find buried treasure. Then he uses the same rock in a hat method to "translate" the Book of Mormon? That's a red flag.

Argument: The Book of Mormon contains some Hebrew words, which could be argued, were used in the correct context and this means the Book of Mormon is true. Question: How many Hebrew words used in the Book of Mormon out of context would mean it is NOT true? Question: How many anachronisms in the Book of Mormon would it take for it to NOT be true? Question: How many elements of plagiarism would it take for it to NOT be true? Mormons love to argue about parallels between the Book of Mormon and other literary structures, like chiasmus as an argument for its authenticity. But do parallels really mean its authentic and true? Especially in light of all of the times it is full of anachronisms, false history, plagiarisms, etc. Why does one parallel outweigh hundreds of false points?

There’s no way you can prove an angel took the plates: therefore that is a made up story. This is in no way evidence. I know this is the best you’ve got, but it had been debunked many many times. Again : not evidence. A few points The actual name is "nehem" which is hardly analogous to "nahom" The book of Mormon never explained the precise location of the site meaning you cannot directly attribute "nahom" to "nehem" The site had been mentioned on many pre 19th century maps, considering smiths father was a a educated teacher, it's likely he had a map or two spare. Smith could've also likely came up with the name by changing a single letter of the biblical character "Nahum," he did the same with omri and Omni, levi and lehi, He did the same with the Book of Abraham too, elkanah (samuels father) and elkenah (actually the Egyptian god qebahsenuef)

I cried because, in the movie, I realized that if Heavenly Father chooses us, no matter what we did in the past, He is still looking at our hearts and calling us to further the work of salvation. Thank you so much for this episode,, I felt the Spirit!

Great podcast of course the book of mormon has to be from God sadly a lot of people arnt prepared to understand how important it is to find out if God is still speaking to us through the book of mormon and our prophet Now is the time to prepare to meet God

We millions say they believe the bible to be the word of God but how many REALLY do 100 percent because there are a lot of weird miricles in the bible like a donkey talking and a rod turning into a snake etc I believe the bible to be the word of God because i pray every day Repent And seek the Holy Spirit to help me and i believe the book of mormon the same way

The hat? The Lord and Joseph spoke of the Urim and Thummum time and time again as the mode of translation and not the seer stone and the hat. Why the hat and not the nephite instrument that was with the plates.

Thank you for producing the witnesses re-enactment. Also, I would like to add my witness that the Book of Mormon is a true record that testify the divinity of Heavenly Father and His son Jesus Christ. I know that Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God and was an instrument in translating the ancient record by the power of the Holy Ghost. I know also that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is God's kingdom here on earth. I so testify these things to be true in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

I love this. Joseph Smith had every reason to follow God and his covenants. His eye is on the sparrow and I know he comforts me. So beautiful to also be a witness.

Appreciate noting the small, simple, humble spaces for holiness. Christ taught on the side of a hill. The early church didn’t need a Rameumptom or 174 foot tall spires. What changed?

YES Joseph saw it, was the sword stored horizontal or stored verticle in the stone box? so where is it? so how long can we go on with the artifacts NOT found around the hill? the Plates Not found, The LIAHONA NOT found, here another carrot for the seekers, where is anything NOT produced, JOSEPH really did have a disappearing spirit as was his treasure hunting. now everyone associated with mormonism has the spirit he has.

there were never, ever, ever any gold plates. you can't just repeat something and make it so, that's not how adults do things. the whole sailing to America and jesus raising from the dead is a fictional story and the 'golden' plates are doubly so. and this is going to sound mean, but the reason he faced intense perseuction was because he wasn't a good human being. he drank, went to brothels, hustled people for their money with seer stones, had sex with children and married women...that's why he was killed for being a megalomaniac cult leader sexual predator... just like how we put warren jeffs in jail and would kill him if we could...same type of person.

Dan Peterson is one of my favorite LDS scholars. I've been a big fan for a long time. Thanks for sharing this interview. I also really loved his and Gerrit Dirkmaat's short insights videos on the Witnesses movie web site. I bought the DVDs of that movie, both the movie itself and the other video about the production of the movie. It was very well done. I'm also really enjoying these videos with Scott Christopher :)

Wow! Harvard and Yale Divinity School also offered a School of the Prophets as well!

I visited this site as a young man and was very impressed by the Spirit to know the School of Prophets was a spiritual university. I knew jospeh Smith was a true prophet of this final dispensation and I still know it. I am so grateful for all that was revealed by the Lord through the Prophet to bless His children.
